Install Activex Sdk

  1. On some of my systems this install process goes over nicely. On a few, particuarly the ones with slower Internet, I get into an endless-loop of: going to the page, waiting a long period of time (I assume this is where its downloading the CAB file), clicking yellow bar to allow it to 'Install this CAB file for all Users' and the page reloading.
  2. Download signed ActiveX Controlsset to Prompt Download unsigned ActiveX Controlsset to Disable Initialize and script ActiveX Controls not marked as safeset to Disable Run ActiveX Controls and plugginsset to Enable Script ActiveX Controls marked safe for scriptingset to Enable Java permissionsset to High.

One of the frequently asked questions by Winaero readers is how do you install an offline (downloaded) update in Windows 10? Usually, with Windows 10 version update announcements, I try to provide direct links to update files. Cumulative standalone updates for Windows 10 have the MSU format. Here is how you can install an update which comes as a CAB or MSU file.

Manually Install Ocx

If you manually downloaded updates for Windows 10, for example, the recently released Windows 10 build 10586.494, you get a file named Windows10.0-kb3172985-x64_006b20fc4c418499afa25248edacff2ef7dab963.msu

Let's assume that you moved it to the folder C:updates.

To apply this update to the installed and running operating system, do the following:

How to install an MSU update in Windows 10

  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Type the following command:

Correct the path to the update to match your file location.

How to install a CAB update in Windows 10

If your update comes as a file with the CAB extension, you need to use another command to install it.

Before you continue, you might be interested in reading the following article:

  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Type the following command:

Again, correct the path to the update to match your file location.

These command line methods are useful for batch files, that is, when you want to install a group of updates at once. Normally, if your file associations are not messed up, MSU files can be double clicked and installed easily but the command line method allows automating the process. With WUSA.exe, you can also use switches like /quiet, /norestart etc.

Note: MUI (langauge packs) often have the CAB format. But you should not use the DISM command to install them. Instead, run the built-in lpksetup.exe tool and follow the wizard's instructions.
You can learn in detail how to use lpksetup.exe from the following article: How to install an MUI language CAB file in Windows 10.

That's it.

At my organization, they use the Siebel web client to clock hours. Sometimes when people get their PC refreshed, it's very difficult to get Siebel working again, because the site will throw up a message saying 'Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application, may not be current.....' while at the same time showing a bar at the bottom of the screen to install the add-on. But you can't click install without clicking OK to the prompt that comes up, which forces the web browser page to close out shortly after.

You can bypass this mechanism by pressing ESC but it takes a few tries and also requires the user to enter in credentials every time... So I figured out the 3 .cab files it downloads but haven't been able to figure out how to install them manually.

One of them has a .inf and .exe file, and the other two have one .inf and .dll file.
