  • Pros

Mobile and desktop workspaces. Easy-to-use interface for those familiar with Windows. Manages software licensing. Many tech support options.

  • Cons

Setup process is hardware-heavy. 24/7 phone support only on some plans. Lengthy installation process. No cloud-hosted option.

  • Bottom Line

Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite (formally LANDesk IT Asset Management Suite) begins at $50 per endpoint per year; it is an add-on to the Ivanti Management and Security Suite. Within a single IT asset management tool, Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite gives you asset lifecycle management, asset discovery, financial management, software compliance, and software license entitlement. Its dashboard displays which assets are being tracked, their location, how they're being used, and how they're performing. Those who don't mind an on-site software installation will probably like Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite. However, for those who want the simplicity of a cloud-based service and upfront pricing should check out Editors' Choice winners ManageEngine AssetExplorer and MMSoft Pulseway.

Pricing for Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite is based on how many nodes you need to support. Like InvGate Assets, Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite is fielding an entirely agent-based pricing scheme, meaning printers, Internet Protocotol (IP) phones, routers, and any other network device that can't install an agent does not count against the number of assets you can add to the system. The pricing strategy for this toolset, as well as adding any other components to the management suite, is based on negotiation with Ivanti directly. I was able to get a soft quote of close to $50 per node for the inventory component along with the Asset Lifecycle and Process Manager add-on; however, the company later stated its pricing as: Ivanti IT 'Asset Management Suite (which includes discovery, inventory, reclamation, asset lifecycle management, and data analytics) has an MSRP of $60 per node.'

You can download a 45-day trial of Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite, which comes with an install for Ivanti Management and Security as well as an installer for Ivanti Asset Lifecycle and Ivanti Process Manager. In order to start using Ivanti ITAM, you first need to install Ivanti Management and Security suite and then install the add-on component for IT Asset Management Suite. You'll also need a different server to host each suite as the Asset Lifecycle and Process Manager add-on can't be installed on the same server as the Management and Security suite. The IT Asset Lifecycle and Process Manager provides the ability to modify templates for your assets so you can quickly configure the information you want tracked. The trial takes a significant amount of time to install and you'll want to confirm with Ivanti the minimum hardware requirements each machine will need. I was successful with a server using two CPU cores and 7 gigabytes (GB) of RAM.

Getting Started

When you first get started with the Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite, you'll see the Main screen with an initial Setup wizard ready to walk you through initial configuration. It may be reminiscent of Clippy from Microsoft Word but I found it helpful to understand how to discover the assets on the network. The wizard follows along as you navigate around Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite and updates the next step for you to take. It runs through some configuration and also goes through your first network scan. These wizards will pop up on the right-hand side whenever you enter an area of Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite related to configuration and administration.

Suite

Ivanti has a concept that it has created called 'Workspaces.' Workspaces give each category of user a different layout when they access data stored in Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite. IT analysts will get the information and tools needed to help them process tickets from users, while Asset Managers will get data related to the organization's installed software and hardware along with lifecycle data to help with purchasing. There is also a Workspace for senior executives that delivers high-level information to aid with decision making across multiple IT departments. These Workspaces support all operating system (OS) desktop platforms, and there are apps available for both Android and iOS. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my trial version to display Workspaces because it is only available in 9.6 SP1. Ivanti has also created a product set that focuses on the Workspaces user interface (UI) and integrates asset recording into Workspaces.

Adding Assets

The core Management and Security suite has a discovery tool for finding your unmanaged devices. After you've done this initial scan, you can then install agents onto those machines. The UI for adding agents to machines can be a little complex because you have to right-click an agent configuration, such as Default Windows Configuration, then go back to your Unmanaged Device Discovery window and drag a computer from there to the Scheduled Tasks window. After you jave assigned a computer to a task, you can then have an agent installed. Once the agent is installed, the data is sent to the Ivanti Management and Security database and can be used with the rest of the application.

To help track key data points, there are more than 100 prebuilt reports available. From here, you can also build your own personal queries and save them to the Reports dashboard. The reports return information very quickly, and I was able to easily manipulate queries and see data. Not only did they return results quickly but I felt these reports also looked more professional than some of the competition, notably ServiceNow. Unfortunately, scheduling reports isn't as easy as some of other products reviewed, such as SolarWinds Web Help Desk. In order to schedule reports, you have to create a workflow in the Asset Lifecycle and Process Manager and then set this as a scheduled task.

If you purchase any product from Ivanti, then you have several Technical Support options: phone, online self-service, web portal, or a technical account manager. Calling into the phone support line, I had to navigate several automated menus in order to be directed to someone who could help me with my trial version. Ivanti's online support is an easier experience as it readily contains assisted phone support information, downloads, e-learning, product documentation, a user community, and a self-service portal.

If you're willing to pay a premium, then you can also get a technical account manager. The option comes in five levels and ranges from a contract period of three months (with a target response time of within two hours to a dedicated person) to a contract period of 1-3 years (with a target response time of within 30 minutes). There's 24/7 phone support available for critical issues, as long as you're able to get the Enterprise or Enterprise Plus support level with your purchase.

Ivanti's products come in a variety of languages. The currently supported languages are Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. There are also separate installers for North America, Europe, and Asia so, if your company is doing business in multiple countries, then you should take into account you will have two installers depending on which country you're installing the Management and Security Suite and the Asset Lifecycle and Process Manager.

If you can handle the hardware or virtual machine (VM) requirements, then Ivanti Management and Security with the IT Asset Lifecycle and Process Manager might be a good fit for you. It provides a discovery tool and a lot of support options. But, unlike ManageEngine AssetExplorer, Ivanti's tools seem harder to configure, and the discovered assets have to be dragged around and moved to different sections of the application.
