Cannot Open Adobe Acrobat Document

Some users of Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 may encounter an error when they attempt to open a PDF file from their email client such as Microsoft Outlook. I am running Windows 10 and Acrobat Reader DC, latest versions. I frequently convert documents to pdf by using Microsoft print to PDF. There are times where Acrobat Reader DC cannot open the document and states 'Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open xxxxx.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. Then you can edit, export, and send PDFs for signatures. Feb 10, 2016  PDFs will print if I open them in Adobe READER and print from here; it is only within Acrobat DC that they will not print. Sometimes they can just close the pdf document and open it back up and then it will print if they try. The supplied documents to fix this issue do not help. I just did it and still cannot even open the print menu in.

  1. From Acrobat Reader, select “Edit” > “Preferences“.
  2. Select “Security (Enhanced)” on the left pane.
  3. Uncheck the “Enable Protected Mode at startup” box.
  4. Select “Yes” to the prompt about being sure about making this change.
  5. Click “OK“.

You should be good to go! Adobe Reader 11 should now open files just fine.
